No news yet and latencies back

Well no news of the UMC progress. I have got a number of someone to phone and get infomation.

Unfortunately as you might know, the incredibly poor latencies have returned. I have got infomation back from colleagues that report hop from adsl router to dsl gateway have increased drastically.

Will this circus never end???

Appalling ADSL for entire region connecting to Xanadu

Hello everyone

Just to let you know, there is collosal problems at the Xanadu exchange. There is very little next to no traffic on the DSLAM. This was the same from the 6th to the 9th of September. And again its down since the 12th.

Telkom ADSL support which is useless as the persons can only ask what is on their screen. They WILL tell you the fault is on your side and will be charged a call-out fee. Fight back and tell them its on the Xanadu exchange and the entire region with the 259 prefix is effected.

I have reason to believe foul play is involved as normally these faults are fixed in 8 hours. Its the entire region. However we looking at 4 days....

ADSL stats

Mysteriously ADSL latencies have improved. Could the blog be working? Time will tell. Here is the first stat. It is of a 384k ADSL line.

Its worth mentioning that Ive tested numerous lines and can establish this stat as the average baseline of performance. Note that its 30ms now to target. Previously this used to be between 60 and 80 ms on the first hop! Then add another 20ms-30ms to target. Once again, time will tell if this type of stat holds or if Telkom "Fixes" the exchange and it goes back to sorrow.

Also just to add, a unshaped or shaped DSL line does not make a difference. I believe the whole shaped/unshaped model is a bit of a farce, but anyway lets move on.

Next stat is that of a 4MB line.



Its interesting to note how many more hops there are here. Also you will notice that the average ms is lower. More hops less ms. Its like a contradiction. However it must be noted that when the ADSL was rotten the 4MB client would get about 40ms on first hop then add about 20ms to target. What bothers me most about that is that 384k clients and 4mb clients dont receive same network access. Some of you might say, "Duh, thats obvious, 4MB is faster". This is true, but we both access the same cable. Also this is only for the Xanadu exchange. On the Schoemansville exchange, 384k and 4mb clients have equal ms on first hop etc,etc. So its purely a Xanadu phenomenon and I believe its discrimination.
